I loved staying at Blue Hen Farm! I felt like I was a part of the Blue Hen family the moment I arrived! I was given the warmest welcome from the hosts Leslie and Jeff and their two adorably friendly dogs Nelly and Quia. They created such a fun and relaxing environment during my stay. I really enjoyed sitting down for meals with Leslie and Jeff and hearing stories about their farming experiences! They have a wealth of information to share about organic farming and told me all about the fascinating history of the farm. Plus, I got a true taste of the farm experience during my visit, everything from feeding the piglets, to searching for eggs, to brushing the horses! It made me so happy to be working on the farm and to see all of the happy animals roaming about! I think my favourite thing to do when I was at Blue Hen farm was to go for a walk through the beautiful meadows and forest; it is so peaceful on their property!

After a crazy day at work, I arrived at Blue Hen Farm to be greeted by Leslie reminding me to decompress! That didn’t take long after a walk amongst the animals and beautiful property. With the help of fresh air, and a comfortable bed, it didn’t take me long to fall asleep that night, unusual for me! Waking up to the sounds of a farm is way better than an alarm clock! And that breakfast!! Yum! Thank you Jeff and Leslie for making me feel at home. That experience gave me a new appreciation for farmers and proves that you don’t have to travel far to get a holiday!

I spent two overnights at the farm. I love the fresh air, collecting eggs, and snuggling George the llama! I have learned so much on this farm. I felt so comfortable and welcome ! I wish I could’ve stayed longer and I can’t wait to visit again. Thanks Leslie and Jeff for making me feel like I was a part of your farm family!

I’m absolutely in love with the farm, I constantly wish I had more free time so I could be there more often. Since I was a kid I have loved the country and found the idea of farms really fun. Being at Blue Hen Farm gives me the chance to be surrounded by both these things. I got a much needed break from the rush of the city and was taught a lot of cool things about the animals that Leslie has. Personally, I love the people at the farm as much if not more then the animals. Leslie and Jeff are both incredibly sweet and never fail to welcome me with open arms making me feel right at home. Being at the farm gives me time to de-stress, and connect myself back to the simple pleasure of life while realizing the amazing work that goes on daily with the animals and the property. I cannot wait to go back to stay in the beautiful, old farm house and breath that fresh country air.

I’ve stayed at Blue Hen Farm in both the winter and the summer and both experiences offered me the perfect refuge from the bustle of city life. The country charm permeates throughout the home-the rooms were impeccably clean and the bedding was fresh and crisp-I felt like I was in a Jane Austen novel. This was a bonus on top of getting a hands-on experience of what it’s like to be a farmer. A camera is essential for this visit be it for pictures with the animals, strolling through the gardens or hiking this property with its diverse wildlife and landscapes. My first visit was in February and it was a winter wonderland…on that visit I learnt that a farmer’s work is never done. It was educational and rewarding to care for the animals which was followed by being welcomed in from the cold to chat with Leslie and Jeff by the fire. Summer offers more of this country charm while being surrounded by the lush grounds which include gardens, forests, pastures and meadows. Everyone is so friendly; there are always guests and volunteers around to chat with while relaxing on their veranda with a cold drink. The fresh air, hands on working with the animals and hiking the property gave me the best sleep I’ve had in months. I can’t wait to get back. Thank you so much for your warmth and this experience Leslie and Jeff.

Staying at Blue Hen Farm for two weeks in July was the highlight of my summer! I went into it with no farming experience but Leslie and Jeff made me feel at home and gave me confidence in the face of some challenging work with the animals. The farm is located in a gorgeous part of the province. One of my favourite things to do was take their dog Nellie out for runs on the country road. The thing that sets Leslie and Jeff apart from other hosts is that they really include you as part of the farm family. We did so much together- from watching a movie eating ice cream after a long day to running after squealing piglets and clucking chickens it was always with a sense of camaraderie and real teamwork. Can’t wait to come “home” to the farm again!

My husband, a friends couple and I stayed in Blue Hen Farm just one night in late September and it was so perfect. Leslie made us feel home with a warm welcoming, nice tour of the farm and all her explanations. I didn’t expect to live such an experience on the farm; we signed up to wake up early to “work” a little bit. I loved it and I now even consider having my own farm later :) I’m happy to meet truly animal and nature lovers like them. Their work is amazing and they’re giving so much love to what they do. The breakfast was fresh and delicious, you can’t miss it! We even received a present when we left. Thank you again Leslie for everything, we loved it all!

I stayed at Blue Hen Farm and it was a wonderful and refreshing experience. It felt like a home away from home. Jeff and Leslie were gracious hosts who introduced us to the beautiful grounds and the kind animals. You’d expect to awaken by the stereotypical rooster, but the home is such a haven that it never even happened once. I can’t wait to find some time to visit again and I want to thank you for such a great time.

My fiance and I desperately needed some time off during the holidays and found the Blue Hen Farm to be the perfect get away between Christmas festivities. It was a great place to drop into between our regular Ottawa – Toronto family visits and was the ideal place to catch-up on some sleep while also experiencing something new! Neither of us have ever been on a farm before, but Leslie was a great guide showing us all of the animals and farm buildings, while also teaching us what it takes to be a farmer and making us feel very comfortable around the surprisingly intimidating animals. After working the morning on the farm we certainly enjoyed our “second breakfast” in the quaint and peaceful farm-house, especially having gathered the eggs ourselves! I have never tasted such rich and fresh eggs – that was a whole experience in itself! Thank you so much to Leslie and Jeff for facilitating our relaxing and enjoyable experience at Blue Hen Farm. We will definitely be visiting again this Christmas when we need to escape the city and the mayhem of our day to day lives! Best of luck to you both :)
